The Barbour River empties into Sapelo Sound, which separates the south end of St Catherine's Island from the north end of Blackbeard Island. Transportation is provided by boat to the home and the return trip. For the writer, artist, naturalist, or fisherman, this is the perfect retreat.  This is a “no vehicle” island with only dirt roads and trails meandering throughout the forests, tidal creeks, and ponds.  An electric golf cart and bicycles are provided with the house, so you may ride or if you prefer, walk the island for wildlife viewing and birdwatching and absorb the serenity of this beautiful island.   While there is no beach…there is a large community swimming pool with a large open air covered cabana and bathrooms.  A deep water dock can be used to secure your boat if you choose, and  it is an ideal place to fish, crab, or clean your “catch of the day,” with water, electricity, lights, and a fish cleaning station on the dock.  Ample seating is provided if you wish to languish away your time as you enjoy the breezes, sunsets, or watch as dolphins frolic up and down the river.   This is a two-story home with a wooded deck entry tucked amid several trees with a large front porch that wraps around to the screened back porch that adjoins the kitchen and allows access to the back area of the home and yard.  Enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon beverage as well as view the occasional boater who may travel past.  This is a three-bedroom, two and half bath home.  The two bedrooms on the main floor have king beds, Dish TV and VCRs in each and attached full baths.  The master bedroom bath has tub/shower combo while the other king bedroom’s attached bath has a shower.  A spiral staircase gives access to the private upstairs bedroom with a trundle bed (2 twin beds), separate attached half bath and also offers access to a large enclosed deck.  A washer/dryer combination is enclosed in the fully equipped kitchen and dining area that seats six.   Everything you would need to spend a week or a month is provided.  Most staples, paper products, beach chairs, rods and tackle, coolers, bicycles, bug sprays, sunscreen, and much, much more.  Anything you may need is there, even a small freezer.   Just bring your clothes, toiletries, and any other special foods or beverages you wish.  There are no shops, stores, or restaurants on the island.  The nearest grocery and beverage center is approximately 18 miles away in the settlement of Eulonia, Georgia.. (runway 150 feet by 2500 feet) or boat in only (one boat trip to and from the island is included in the rates). All other side trips to the mainland are additional with a 24-hour prior notice.

We believe food, prayer and love play a big part in growing a squirrel big and strong, especially after a trauma. We are always glad to have help with giving them extra love. Small children are permitted to pet them gently with one finger but typically they don't hold the babies unless they are sitting down on a soft cushion since baby squirrels are wiggly and can easily fall. Some of our squirrels currently in residence are: Sid, Simon, Cannonball, Daisy, Destiny, Tulip, Henry and Rosie. The host is always available for questions/issues. The host lives right next door. Palmetto Bug), can even fly inside from their nests outside. I do my best to keep the pests away - the property is cleaned after every rental. As creepy as they may make you feel, an occasional roach or line of ants in this part of the world is a fact of life and does not mean the property has been poorly maintained. Things you can do to help: Use reusable plastic or fabric bags, not paper. Roaches love paper and glue, so bag your groceries in reusable fabric or plastic containers so the bugs don`t travel with you. Keep food sealed. All food should be stored either in the refrigerator or in sealed packages or containers. We recommend that you bring Zip-Loc® type storage bags and re-sealable containers for your leftovers. Keep your unit clean. Bugs are attracted to food and water. So, clean up all areas where food is prepared and served, clean up spills and crumbs from snack foods immediately and don`t leave dirty dishes lying around.
